A deadly railway accident in the Mexican state of Oaxaca has caused the fatalities of at least 13 people, an incident expected to reignite critical opposition regarding the pace and execution of the country's key government projects.
The crash occurred on the Interoceanic Corridor train, a line built to join the Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean across the slenderest section of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. This endeavor was designed to establish an alternative rail cargo route to the Panama Canal, with the goal of spurring economic development in the area.
“We will thoroughly investigate the cause of this incident,” affirmed the national leader.
The official reported that, of the around 250 passengers on board, another 98 were injured, with five of those in critical condition. The president added plans to go to Oaxaca to confer with those impacted.
Key Undertaking of Former Government
The Interoceanic Train was a central infrastructure project of the immediate past president, whose time in office finished the previous year. This venture was intimately linked to his leadership's economic vision for the southern region.
